Job Title: Runaway and Homeless Youth Program Coordinator/Volunteer Coordinator

Job Description: Individuals in this position are responsible for providing a variety of services in support of the agency’s Runaway and Homeless Youth Program (RHYP). This includes the continued development and management of volunteer services in accordance with agency policy and philosophy.

Qualifications: Requires a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university and the equivalent of at least two (2) years of full-time experience working in a human services setting. A Master’s Degree and previous experience with volunteer management, personnel supervision, and working with at-risk youth is preferred. Requires good verbal/written communication skills, good organizational skills, good interpersonal skills, and the ability to work independently.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

• Develops, coordinates, and provides training for volunteers serving the agency, primarily the RHYP, Street Outreach and Transitional Living programs.
• Develops and implements volunteer recruitment strategies that facilitate recruitment of volunteers from various cultures and backgrounds.
• Conducts semi-annual (or more frequent as indicated) performance reviews of volunteers and maintains a personnel file for each volunteer.
• Conducts volunteer training sessions with a frequency necessary to maintain a sufficient number of volunteers to meet agency needs.
• Assures that evaluations of volunteer training sessions are conducted and that feedback received is utilized to improve volunteer training as applicable.
• Plans and coordinates semi-annual volunteer appreciation events.
• Participates in the on-call counselor rotation.
• Provides shift coverage and staff oversight in the RHYP and youth shelter
• Performs other responsible and related duties as assigned


Salary & Benefits: Starting Annual Salary is $36,920 to $40,000. Benefits include: health, dental, life, and disability insurance; paid holidays; SEP and 403B plan; flex spending account; mileage reimbursement; and generous paid time off.

Work Hours: Full-time, 40 hours per week with evening and weekend hours required.

Transportation: Reliable transportation is required.

Job Title: Intensive Supervision/Youth Restitution Program Youth Counselor

Briarpatch has an exciting opportunity for a skilled professional to work as a program counselor with our Intensive Supervision and Youth Restitution Programs. Briarpatch is a dynamic organization, which provides employment training, supervision, counseling, shelter, outreach, and victim services. These are all designed to promote accountability in and opportunities for youth all over Dane County.

Qualifications:

  • BA in human service field or equivalent work experience
  • 2 years of paid experience working with youth ages 10-17 
  • Demonstrated writing ability
  • Demonstrated computer skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as a member of a team
  • Ability to speak Spanish is a plus

Preference will be given to those candidates who have experience working
with people of diverse cultural backgrounds. Knowledge of the Dane County Juvenile Court system and good public relations skills are important. A strengths-based approach combined with empathy will help the right candidate manage this challenging human services position.

Job Duties:

The person in this position monitors clients at home and in the community; provides transportation for clients to programming; attends court hearings; reports client progress to Dane County social workers and judges. This person will assist clients with competency development skills through group facilitation; they will supervise and work alongside of clients on group community service projects. Accurate and timely case note entry detailing all service delivery is an important part of this job. Other job duties occur as needed.

Compensation Package: Beginning salary is $30,160 with attractive benefits including 403(b) plan; health, dental, life and disability insurance; plus generous paid time off.

Work Hours: This is a full time, benefited position. The schedule is Tuesday–Saturday, 11am–7pm.

Transportation: Reliable vehicle with adequate insurance is required.

Job Title: Summer Work Team Supervisors

Job Description: Successful applicants will provide on-site supervision to youth employed with the agency’s summer employment programs including: the Madison Street Team, St. Isadore’s Farm & Garden, and other youth work teams. Team Supervisors will ensure youth work and learn by providing support on a variety of service learning projects. Supervisors establish team goals, strategies, and assignments based on program objectives and assure that work objectives are met. Briarpatch’s summer employment programs use a service learning/positive youth development approach that teaches employment and life skills.

Qualifications:
• High school diploma and 1-2 years of youth work experience
• Experience working with teens in a supervisory capacity
• Experience working with culturally diverse populations
• Organization and communication skills, ability to work on a team
• Interest in service learning/positive youth development programing with an emphasis on community renewal, gardening, and urban agriculture
• Valid driver’s license and good driving record required

Duties and Responsibilities:
• Available to work mid-May to the end of August 2017
• Supervise groups of 5 youth ages 14-18; groups will clean Madison streets, and maintain area parks and urban agriculture projects
• Recruit youth ages 14-18 for summer employment opportunities
• Maintain contact with parents
• Teach youth basic employment and life skills
• Complete assigned job tasks within specific time frames

Compensation: $14 per hour

Work Hours: 8 part-time LTE positions; 15-35 hours per week
